Dr. Cyn holds a PhD in Social Work, a Master’s of Science in Social Work with a specialization in Management and Community Practice, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Sociology with a minor in Psychology.

They are an award winning artist, educator, and evaluator with over twenty years of experience supporting groups from across the USA to engage in community-led change using data-driven decision making in areas including the promotion of safe driving by teens and young adults, substance abuse prevention, crime prevention, and inclusion of people with disabilities. They are currently an Associate Professor at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN USA where they teach courses on research and public policy.

Dr. Cyn is available to consult on your group’s scientific project. They can provide short term or long term support as a program planner, evaluator, or training provider. Dr. Cyn is excellent at facilitating brainstorming sessions with diverse stakeholders to help generate new ideas. They also provide critical reviews and dissenting opinions. Dr. Cyn is only interested in supporting groups that are trying to authentically use scientific methods to plan inclusive efforts that are working toward individual and community level change promoting social, economic, and environmental justice and striving for the sustainability of an improved quality of life for everyone.

Dr. Cyn will come shake up your system and inspire people to action. They are available to serve as a speaker for your events discussing a range of topics including persistence through poverty, being a first-generation college student, managing lifelong disabilities, surviving a disabling car crash, using a punk band for self care, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the arts & education, decolonizing your course syllabi, best practices for teaching social movements in social work, and best practices for integrating arts into higher education.

Dr. Cyn can get the whole band together too and come rock your socks off! Dr. Cyn and the Graduates Rise are available to perform at your university, business, conference, bar, restaurant, coffee shop, record store, or in any community setting! If you prefer, Dr. Cyn and their guitar player are available for a more laid back and intimate acoustic set with poetry readings and conversation.
